Die Farmer machen über den Hashtag #noplant19 unter anderem auf Twitter auf die schwierige Situation aufmerksam. Gemäss Agrarministerium USDA hätten rund 37,5 Millionen Hektaren Mais gepflanzt werden sollen, bisher konnte aber erst auf knapp 22 Millionen Hektaren die Maisaussaat abgeschlossen werden. Mais ist ein der am stärksten betroffenen Kulturen.
